Patricia ‘Pat’ Mae Seglund

MUNISING, MI – Patricia “Pat” Mae Seglund, age 92, went to see her Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Eastwood Nursing Center.

She was born to parents, Sarah and Henrik Henriksen, on October 19, 1928, in Munising, Michigan. She was a graduate of Munising’s Mather High School in 1946. She worked at the “dime” store in Munising for a short time, and then went to work for Kimberly Clark as a secretary. She met her husband, Wilfred “Scow” Seglund at a dance for servicemen at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Munising. They were married on June 6, 1949. They were happily married for 52 years.

She resided at 206 W. Munising Avenue until she was married. Scow and Pat then built a home next door at 204 W. Munising Avenue. They finished the basement first, and lived there while they finished the first floor in the late 1950’s. This would be her home for the next 70 years. She loved being in the center of town in Munising where she could be a part of everything going on.

In 1951, she had her first daughter, Ruth and thereafter, Pat was a homemaker for her family. She spent much of her time cooking, and being involved in activities at Eden Lutheran Church. Her favorite activity was her Coffee Klatch Group. Each person took a turn hosting including; Dorothy Henriksen and Josie Seglund (her sisters-in-law), Eleanor Johnson, Ruth Thorrington, Evelyn Bashaw, Anne Graves, and Lillian Kelto. They met every week for over 70 years! Pat made sure to never schedule anything else on Coffee Klatch days.

Pat, above all, was a very Christian Woman. For years, if someone had an issue, she would be called on to pray as she had such a strong connection to God. She prayed for hours every day never taking anyone off her prayer list once they had been added on.

She had a caring and loving heart as big as Lake Superior, and always made everyone around her feel special. She was always up for having fun, and loved going on trips.

She welcomed everyone to her home with a big smile and a hug. You would be asked to come in for coffee, a sweet roll, cake, or pie. If you were lucky enough to come around supper time, you would be asked to stay.

She was also a very hard-working woman. She helped construct camp in AuTrain, and heat their home with the woodstove in Munising.

She was not afraid to use the chain saw, haul and pile wood, and work alongside anyone working. However, when it came to 3:00 pm, the bell always rang for coffee. Scow got used to his coffee time when coming home from his job at Kimberly Clark. It was a lifelong tradition, coffee at 3:00 pm (or maybe a drink if they were at camp working on a project). Usually, a cookie too.

Pat was preceded in death by; her parents, Henrik and Sarah Henriksen, husband, Wilfred “Scow” Seglund, her eldest daughter, Ruth K. Pond, sister, Ruth (John) Shields, brother, William Henriksen and sister-in-law, Dorothy Henriksen, brothers-in- law, James Seglund and wife, “Tootie”, brother-in-law, Sonny Seglund and wife, Wanda, and brother-in-law, Richard Seglund.
