Ida Giotto Medlyn

NORTH LAKE / BLOOMINGTON, IN – Ida Giotto Medlyn passed away on the morning of March 14, 2021, at the age of 94, at her residence at Bell Trace Senior Living Center in Bloomington Indiana.

She was born on June 27, 1926, in Negaunee and grew up in in North Lake. She was the daughter Pietro (Peter) and Rose Giotto and the sister of Maria, Joseph, Nellie, Bruno, Julia, Jennie and Charlie.

She was a graduate of Ishpeming HS and was a 1949 graduate of Northern Michigan University and dedicated her life to student counseling and mental health causes. She later received a Doctorate in Counseling and Guidance from Indiana University School of Education.

Ida spent the majority of her career as a guidance counselor at Bloomington High School South and later worked as an adjunct professor with Indiana University School of Continuing Studies, retiring from her part time role just prior to her 90th birthday.

Her husband, William H. Medlyn was born and raised in Ishpeming preceded her in death in 2006. Family survivors include her sons: Mark (Debra) Medlyn, Craig Medlyn and Steve (Cindy) Medlyn, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Ida donated her body to the IU School of Medicine for medical research; therefore, a private funeral will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Wm. H. and Ida G. Medlyn Endowment at the Indiana University Center for Human Growth, Bloomington IN.
