MARQUETTE, MI – Laura J. Gannon, age 55, of Marquette, entered eternal life on Monday, February 1, 2021, at her home, in the loving care of her family and caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Laura was born on September 4, 1965, to Rudolph and Elaine (Niemi) Prosen in Marquette, MI. She was raised in Marquette and was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School's class of 1983. After finishing high school, Laura enrolled at Northern Michigan University graduating in 1987 with a degree in Office Administration. Following graduation from NMU, she started working at Marquette General Hospital in the payroll department. Laura married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Gannon, on July 29, 1989. Following their marriage, Laura moved to Paradise, MI where Dan had recently received his first teaching position.
After a short time in Paradise, the couple returned to Marquette where she resumed her career at the hospital, later working at Northern Michigan University where she was currently employed. Laura was an avid scrapbooker who spent many weekends with her friends at scrapbooking retreats. Some of Laura's happiest times included spending time with her family and their dogs at their camp on Lake Independence. Laura's family was her biggest joy in life, and she cherished the time spent with her loving husband and two sons. She could always be found supporting her boys at any activity or event they were involved in, or spending quality time with her close family of sisters. Those who know Laura best would describe her as someone who loved and cared for her family and friends like few can, and as someone who took the time to get to know and listen to everyone around her.
A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and so many other things, Laura is survived by her loving husband Daniel Gannon of Marquette; her two sons, Adam Gannon of Marquette and Noah Gannon of Holland, MI; her five sisters, Sandy Morris of Florida, Judy (Fran) Roberts of Rapid River, Debbie Prosen of Marquette, Kathy (Mike Sobcyzk) Miller of Marquette and Theresa Prosen of Florida; her mother-in-law, Jean Gannon of Marquette and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Prosen. Honoring the families wish, a celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Laura's name to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare shelter, 815 South, M-553, Gwinn, MI 4984. The Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Service is serving the family where condolences may be expressed online at www. fassbenderswansonhansen.com
