Louis W. “Louie” Marcotte

ISHPEMING, MI – Louis W. “Louie” Marcotte, age 91, of 240 Aspen Dr., Ishpeming, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, at his home, while under the loving care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Louis was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 4, 1929, a son of the late Agnes (Gauthier) and Henry “Harry” Marcotte. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt during the Korean War. Louie worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. starting at the Mather A Mine and retired from the Empire Mine as a maintenance foreman after 35years and 5 months with the company. He was a member of Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee.

Louie and Gladys enjoyed traveling to Green Valley, AZ, where they spent the winter months, for the past 34 years. Summers were spent at camp on the Dead River Basin, with Louie always looking forward to blueberry picking.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys (nee Kauppila) Marcotte of Ishpeming whom he married on Feb 24, 1951; daughter, Lori (Dean) Dalebroux of De Pere, WI; two sons – Dan (Janet) Marcotte and David (Wendy) Marcotte both of Ishpeming; grandchildren – Eric Marcotte, Jason Marcotte, Trent Forst, Rylee Marcotte, Amelia Leukuma, Bryn Leukuma and great-grandson, Jai Marcotte; five sisters – Ruth LeRoy, Marion (Marshall) Randall, and Mae Williams all of Ishpeming; Barb Hilliker of Marquette; Margaret (Dave) Johnson of Negaunee; five brothers – Charles (Patricia) Marcotte of Ishpeming; Allen (Bonnie) Marcotte of Grants Pass, OR; Robert (Katherine) Marcotte of Marquette; Bernard (Deanette) Marcotte of TN; Donald (Shirley) Marcotte of Benson, AZ; sister-in-law, Audrey Marcotte of Marquette; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Marcotte, 2 brothers – John (Cherie) and Roger Marcotte and his first wife, Marlene; and 2 sisters – Armine (Maurice) Libby and Jane (Frank) Santora, brothers-in-law – Allen LeRoy, Jack Williams, and Robert Hilliker.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co Rd 492, Negaunee, where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday with Dan Hintsala to officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending must adhere to the wearing of a mask and social distancing. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
