Glenn R. Seagren, M.D.

PETOSKEY, MI – Glenn R. Seagren, M.D., went to be with the Lord, on December 27, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Moon Seagren and devoted daughter, Gigi Seagren, at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs.

Glenn was the son of Robert and Esther (Erkkila) Seagren. He was born in Wheeling, Illinois in 1953. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Ishpeming, Mi. in 1971. He attended Northern Michigan University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, in 1976. Glenn received his degree of Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University in 1981. He was a board-certified pediatrician and in 1988, he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Prior to moving to Petoskey in 1992, Glenn was a partner with Lansing Pediatrics Associates. While in Petoskey, he was Chief of the Division of Medicine and head of the Department of Pediatrics at Northern Michigan Hospital, Medical Director of the Northern Michigan Hospital Community Heath Education Center, and board member of the Northern Michigan Physician’s Organization.

Glenn was a Pediatrician with the Burns Clinic for 8 years prior to starting his own practice, Petoskey Child Health Associates (PCHA) in 1999. He retired early in 2017, due to Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

Glenn married the love of his life; Moon Seagren, August 18, 1990, on Mackinaw Island. They have one child; (The Miracle Baby) Gigi Seagren. Glenn was an active, and loving father attending and supporting his daughter’s many band and steel drum performances, dance, piano and singing recitals, volleyball, and basketball games while at the same time running his practice of thousands of patients. His daughter was the apple of his eye.

Glenn was forever grateful for his PCHA staff. They had 18 wonderful years together. As one of his staff members Brenda Harwood recently wrote to him in a memoir, “Thank you for being a strong leader, great boss, great mentor, and extremely caring person. But mostly for loving and making us a family and making memories that we will forever cherish and be thankful for. For the blessing of your friendship. We are forever grateful for you and can say that because we have known you, we have been changed for the better and the good.”

Glenn was a lover of nature and an expert angler. He spent many hours with his dear, loyal friends; Gary, Matt, Dan, George, Eric, Ken, Sean, Dennis, Tom, and Terrance, at his cabin in Vanderbilt…while fly-fishing, bird watching, listening to county music, cooking, taking saunas and laughing.

All who had the pleasure of knowing Glenn, found him to be a gentle and kind soul. So very loving, giving, intelligent, passionate, an incredible sense of humor and a true servant of God.

He is survived by his wife; Moon, daughter; Gigi, loving brother; Neil (Melissa) Seagren of Wetmore, Mi., dedicated sister; Gail (Bob) Thompson of Negaunee Mi., many cousins, nephews, and a niece.

He is preceded in death by his father; Robert Seagren and mother; Esther (Erkkila) Seagren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Pigeon River Country Association, P.O. Box 122, Gaylord MI 49734-0122 or The McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital Foundation, (Pediatric Patient Assistance Fund) 360 Connable Ave, Petoskey, MI 49770.

The family is planning a memorial service and celebration of Glenn’s life at a later date.
