Robert “Bob” John Luke
SUN CITY, AZ – Robert “Bob” John Luke, 91, of Sun City Arizona, former longtime resident of Marquette, entered eternal life on October 15, 2020, following a lengthy illness.
Bob was born in L’Anse, MI, on June 20, 1929, to William and Ida (Best) Luke. He and his family moved to Marquette in 1939. Bob graduated from Graveraet High School in 1947. He was active in the National Guard during the Korean War. He held a variety of jobs including being a butcher, General Manager of WDMJ radio, General Manager of WLUC TV6 and built apartments in addition to purchasing and renovating many commercial buildings in Marquette.
Bob was an avid sports fan and a strong supporter of the NMU Wildcats and all Marquette hockey, especially those teams his son Robert and grandson Joseph played on. He was an avid golfer, longtime member, and past president, of the Marquette Golf Club. He was also involved in the Marquette Ambassadors, Messiah Lutheran Church and Marquette Chamber of Commerce.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou. He is also survived by his children: Peggy (Brad) Wind of Orland Park, IL., John (Dawn) Mayotte of Negaunee, Dan Mayotte of Marquette and Robert (Amy) Luke of Marquette; 7 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Bessie (Donald) Veale of Gwinn, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Jeanette (Brian) Tully of Sun City, AZ. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: James “Jim” Luke.
A private memorial and burial will take place in Marquette in the summer of 2021.
