Michael Roy Lummukka

ISHPEMING, MI – Michael Roy Lummukka, (Dr. Smooth) 74, of Ishpeming, Michigan, died September 29, 2020, peacefully in his sleep at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on August 30, 1946, in Ishpeming, Michigan, the son of late Phyllis (Saline) and Roy Lummukka. He married Janet Brown in 1972, who died in childbirth in 1973.

A graduate of Ishpeming High School, Michael later went on to earn a National Machinist Certification in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A talented machinist, he worked for Honeywell Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona until he retired. Following his retirement, he continued his love of being a machinist through working for Van Straten Bros of L’Anse, Michigan. He had an affinity for seeking out and adapting creative solutions to solve mechanical problems, a skill that employers found invaluable throughout his career. His personal hobbies also encompassed his desires to solve potential problems with alternative solutions. He had built a comprehensive “Earth Battery”, using dirt and electrodes that he claimed was strong enough to charge a cell phone after seeing the concept online. Additionally, he was in the process of building a rotary hydraulic pressure machine and enjoyed explaining and teaching others how things work. Following his cancer diagnosis, he researched alternative solutions and learned of Rife Machines, which use specific low electromagnetic energy frequencies to treat health conditions. He was proud that through using his “MOPA” machine, he extended his life beyond doctors’ prognosis. He shared his passion for discovering a different way of treating his cancer with anyone he could, friends, family, and hospice staff through providing credible research sources and personal testimony.

Michael will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor and perspective on life. Many friends remember him for his sense of adventure and storytelling abilities. His friends and family enjoyed learning of his many adventures in life, including having beer keg gas tanks, floating in a canoe with a deer, and the many adventures with friends he had throughout his life. A self-proclaimed “Consequentialist”, he believed that his actions in life dictated the outcomes and that his legacy in life was to pass on his own and ancestorial life lessons to those he knew.

Michael is survived by his son: Dana (Hae Jin) Lummukka of Suffolk, Virginia, Liisa (Timothy) Farrell, of Green Bay, WI, grandchildren: Andrew Analore, Jr, Clara Analore, Molly Analore, Sydney Lummukka, Blane Lummukka, and Jackson Farrell and dear friend and sister-in-law: Jeri Wehmanen of Negaunee, Michigan.

Michael is preceded in death by his wife: Janet Lummukka, mother: Phyllis Lummukka, father, Roy Lummukka, and brother: Jeffrey Lummukka.

The family would like to thank the staff of U.P. Home Health & Hospice for their care. Special appreciation to Jeri Wehmanen and Timothy Farrell for selflessly giving their time and energy to care for Michael throughout his battle with Cancer and during his final months.

A private memorial will be planned in the spring of 2021.
