Leona Elaine Peterson

Leona was born in Ishpeming, Michigan, on March 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Waino and Leona (Beckerleg) Millimaki. Elaine graduated from National Mine High School and was an avid fan of Ishpeming and Westwood High School’s athletics.

After high school, Elaine worked briefly in Washington D.C., before moving back to Ishpeming where she worked for the H.W. Gossard Company, and Mather Nursing Center.

Elaine enjoyed time spent with her family at camp on the Dead River Basin. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

Elaine is survived by a son: Bill (Trude) Peterson of Ishpeming, grandchildren: Tiffany (Mike) Mason, and Anna (Chris) Nelson, great-grandchildren: Aidan, and Callan Mason, and Cohen Nelson, brother-in-law: Donald Trudell of Negaunee, sister-in-law: LaVerne Ellersick of Milwaukee, WI, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special friend: Sandy Arsenault.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband: William Peterson, a sister: Betty Ellis, a brother: Wayne “Dudley” Millimaki, brothers-in-law: Vernon Trudell, Louis (Carol) Trudell and Richard Ellersick.

A Private graveside service for Elaine will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
