Richard Alan “Muck”Crowley

MARQUETTE, MI – Our brother, uncle, cousin and friend had to bow out of the Queen City. Muck’s last call was early Saturday, morning September 19, 2020, just after closing time.

Richard Alan “Muck” Crowley was born in Marquette, Michigan, on October 24th, 1947 and said adios, on September 19th, 2020. While many of us will miss him, we will treasure his wit, sarcasm, artistic creations and being the best JEOPARDY! and crossword wizard.

Muck’s childhood had much local color while growing up in South Marquette and Negaunee. He was a graduate of Bishop Baraga Class of 1965 and Northern Michigan University with a degree in English. He was a tin can sailor, veteran of the United States Navy serving on the destroyer USS Hawkins. He traveled the world while in the Navy and made many personal trips to New York, New Orleans and Alaska seeking culture, jazz and art while drinking cold beer.

Muck was an iconic bartender of over 30 years serving many locals at the 3rd Base Bar and Joe’s (Faces). He loved reading, traveling, art, cribbage and off-beat humor. His mind was so perceptive and sharp and many folks relayed their fascination with his intelligence.

Muck chose to live a simple, modest life. He walked many miles on the city streets since he never acquired a driver’s license, a nonconformist until the very end.

Muck is survived by his siblings: Michael, the “original”ù Muck (Suzanne), Patrick, Mary Beth, Kay Jean, Carolyn/Chaz (Les) and Mark (Carmen). His great friends: Cynthia, Tricia, Melinda, Laura and Amanda who gave so much love and support to him. So many friends, it would be hard to list, but you know who you are. Also surviving are many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins on the Crowley and Savolainen sides.

Preceding him in death, his parents: Bernard (Pete) and Aili ( Savolainen) Crowley and brother Danny.

A celebration of his life will be held at his favorite watering hole when it is safe to gather again. Expect lots of beer, laughter and ball caps.

In Lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activities Fund, 425 Fisher St. , Marquette, MI 49855 or Trillium Hospice House, 1144 Northland Drive, Marquette, MI 49855 , where so many wonderful caregivers offered support and genuine love during the lockdown of no visitation.

They are truly heroes and angels. Remember Muck with bits of humor, jest, music, art and the love of knowledge.
