Norine A. Maki

REPUBLIC, MI – Norine A. Maki, age 74, of 28537 Co. Rd. 601 Champion, MI, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020, at UP Health System Marquette.

Norine was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on January 25, 1946, a daughter of the late Walter and Marie (Bjorne) Salo. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1964.

Norine owned and operated Maki’s Mini Mart in Republic for the past 35 years. She enjoyed bowling for 52 years, she and Aunt Suzie were pals who would pick countless quarts of blueberries each year, and were casino and card playing buddies. Norine enjoyed the company of Sharon and Wayne, as they would fish together, explorer the outdoors and spend time at Lake Arfelin.

Norine served on the TIFA Board with Republic Twp., Board of Review of Humboldt Twp., and a member of the Republic Lions Club.

Norine is survived by a daughter, Kristi (Bill) Thexton, of Republic, a son, Jeff (Bobbie) Maki, of Racine, WI, 2 grandchildren: Lee (Jenna) Warlin, and Justin (Carrie) LaForge, 2 brothers Ken (Marybeth) Salo of Republic and Gary (Jane) Salo of Manistique, sister in law Judy Johnson along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends: Sharon and Wayne Sodman, and Llewanne Salo.

Norine was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Larry Maki, brother: John Salo, sister, Susan Certo, sisters in laws Marion Salo, Jeannette Chadwick, and Dorothy Salo, and brother in law Clyde Certo.

Due to current restriction of COVID-19, a private service will be held, with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date.
