Evelyn Marie Ostola

ISHPEMING, MI – (October 14, 1932 – September 13, 2020). Evelyn “Marie” Ostola, 87, of Green Creek Location, died peacefully, Sunday September 13, due to complications of COVID-19, at home with her family by her side.

Marie was born October 14, 1932, in Ishpeming, the daughter of John and Ruth (Dompierre) Marietti.

She helped form the NICE School District and served on the school board for the first 8 years, 1972-79, and 1981. She was the only woman elected to the first NICE school board and first woman to hold the office of president of the NICE school board.

She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church, its Guild and St. Ann Society, and sang in its choir for 50 years. She also sang with the Choraleers. For many years, Marie assisted with bingo at Mather Nursing Center every first Saturday of the month. She was a member of the Wednesday Girls club for over 40 years. She also worked on the Election Board for Tilden Township for a number of years.

Marie is survived by her husband of 69 years: Ensio, 5 children: William (Barb) Ostola of Tipton, IA, Ensio Ostola Jr., of Redwood City, CA, Gary (Becky) Ostola of Ishpeming, Christine Ostola of Ishpeming and Daniel (Chelle) Ostola, of Champion, 12 grandchildren: Diane (Brian) Bradford, William (Jenny) Ostola, John (Erin) Ostola, Adam (Terri) Ostola, Louie (Cherish) Ostola, Jill (Clay) Tasson, Heather (Josh) Mongiat, Beth Rae, Christa (Matt) Hertel, Cambri Ostola, Cayla Ostola and Daniel Ostola, 26 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Allie and Nathanial Bradford, Joel, McKenzie, Payson Ostola, Landon, Eden and Rylan Ostola, Lucy, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph and Emily Ostola, Cohen, Everett and Harper Ostola, Calee, CJ and Jocelyn Tasson, Owen and Evan Mongiat, Otto, Maci, Addisyn and Eli Hertel, 4 brothers: Robert (Cheryl) Marietti, Raymond Marietti, of Ishpeming, Richard (MaryLou) Marietti of Marquette, William (Janet) Marietti of Hendersonville, NC, 6 sisters: Ruth Holmes and Alice Dellangelo, of Ishpeming, Edith Epper of Mesa, AZ, Dorothy (Dave) Myers of Benson, AZ, Margaret (Joseph) DiStefano of Broomall, PA, Florence (Daniel) Cain of Dallas, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: John, Gerald, Paul, Gregory and David, sister: Judith and grandchildren: Joel and Eric Ostola.

The family would like to thank the staff involved in Marie’s care at UP Health System Marquette including: EMS, the 4th floor COVID unit, the 4th floor Step-down/ ICU, 6th Floor Medical and 7th floor Inpatient Rehabilitation, with a special thank you to Dr. Ryan Budloo for his thorough care and compassion.

Services will be held for immediate family only. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Gardens.

Donations can be made to the family to establish a scholarship fund at NICE Community School District in her honor.
