CRYSTAL FALLS, MI – David Allen Peterson, age 80, of Crystal Falls, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020, with his loving family by his side at Aspirus Iron River Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

David was born on July 15, 1940, in Marquette, son of Alphonse and Florence (Nelson) Peterson.

Raised in Marquette, he graduated from John D. Pierce High School in 1958 and earned his B.S. degree from Northern Michigan University in 1962, later returning for his Masters.

He served six years in Michigan Army National Guard from 1963-1969.

David retired in 1991, after 30 years as a conservation officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. David was a man of true character and integrity. He dedicated his life to taking care of the natural resources he so greatly respected.

An avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed his retirement years fishing Lake Superior lake trout, stream fishing for brook trout, deer and bird hunting, watching the Green Bay Packers and most of all spending time with his family.

David loved his camp on Stella Lake spending time with family and filling it with special and loving memories. This is where his legacy, the love of the great outdoors, was passed on to his daughters and especially his four grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends in which he loved to visit and tell stories.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls.

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arlene (Hanmer) Peterson; two daughters, Ingrid (Greg) VanderLende of Rockford, Michigan and Gretchen (Jamie) Carlson of Crystal Falls; four grandchildren, Trent VanderLende, Austin Carlson, Ericka VanderLende and Kayla Carlson; one sister, Janet (Mack) Nettleton of Maplewood, MN; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Peterson Eastman of Marquette; and his many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frederick Peterson.

A special thank you to Iron County Medical Care Facility for their compassionate and attentive care during the last few months.

Private family services will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2020, with Pastor Vicky Prewitt officiating.

Burial with graveside service’s will be held at a later date in Marquette’s Park Cemetery.
