Allan J. Bjork

CORPUS CRISTI, TX – Allan L. Bjork, 87, of Michigamme, MI, passed away Monday night, Sept. 7, 2020, at his winter residence in Corpus Christi, TX.

Allan was born on August 26, 1933, in Negaunee, MI, to the late Folke “Bushy” and Ruth (Heavyside) Bjork. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School.

On February 23, 1952, he married the former Alice M. Lundin in Ishpeming. Allan resided in Ishpeming for many years where he was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. Following his retirement in 1986 he resided at his cottage in Michigamme where he was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Allan worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 30 plus years as the head of operations at the Humboldt Mine and then as the general foreman of the concentrator at the Tilden Mine. Allan played softball for many years where he enjoyed the challenge of the pitching position. He shared his knowledge and love of hunting with all who knew him. In his 40’s, he took up the game of golf where he accomplished a hole in one and many great moments with Alice, family and friends. He enjoyed volleyball, horseshoes, the sauna, and swimming at his cottage on Beaufort Lake. Allan was a longtime member of the Wawonowin Country Club where he had served on the board of directors.

Allan is survived by his wife; Carolyn White of Corpus Christi, TX, his children; Russell Bjork of Champion, Scott (Carol) Bjork of Champion, Vickie (Jim Skewis) Perry of Negaunee and Dennis Bjork of Ishpeming, Grandchildren; Mark (Denise) Perry, Brian (Christine) Perry, Michael (Allie) Perry, Gina (Michael) Onderek, Kenneth (Sara) Bjork, Shelly (David) Petrusch, Rachael (Greg) Annala and Sarah Bjork, along with 15 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers; Bruce (Pauline) Bjork of Gresham, OR and William (Fran) Bjork of Rudyard.

Allan was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years; Alice Lundin, daughter-in-law; Robyn Bjork and granddaughter; Tina Perry.

A private family service will be held.
