Mary T. Trewhella

MARQUETTE, MI – Mary T. Trewhella, 69, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday morning, July 8, 2020 at Trillium House in the presence of her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Mary was born on January 16, 1951 in Marquette to the late Robert and Madonna (Sarasien) Trewhella and had been a lifelong area resident. She was a 1969 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School.

Mary received an LPN and Associates in Business degree (medical secretary) from Northern Michigan University. She was very proud to have graduated second in the state and sixth in the nation in the medical secretary program.

Mary was previously employed as night supervisor at the Norlite Nursing Center beginning in 1972. She later worked at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base OBGYN clinic from 1986 until 1993. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, listening to music, eating out, playing solitaire on her phone, shopping, and finding a good bargain even if she didn’t need it.

Mary was the loving mother of three sons, Jerry Trewhella of Marquette, Kevin (Florabel) Trewhella of Staten Island, NY and Lance (Rachel) Trewhella of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Isabella, Sophia, Alana, and Isaac Trewhella; four siblings, Robert S. (Marilyn) Trewhella of Big Bay, Jacqueline (Larry) Bean of Canton, MI, Mark Trewhella of Big Bay, and Brice Manuel of North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Tamatha (Dale) Larson, Shawn Liupakka, Bobbi Jo Trewhella, Michael Trewhella, Anna Trewhella, Stacey (Devin) Kendrick, and Jason (Riley Watson) Bean; special friends, Louise Spickerman, Paula Okon, Marhi Pohl, Ann Hill, Deb Perry, Jerry Kongabel, and Kay Pepin. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a brother, Michael Trewhella; sister, Kathleen Liupakka and a nephew, Tim Liupakka.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18 at 12 noon in St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. Mary’s family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of a Nurse Honor Guard ceremony at 11:50 a.m. in the church. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
