John E. Heidemann

ISHPEMING, MI – John Edward Heidemann, age 87, of 265 Olmsted Lane Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

John was born in Ironwood, MI on January 1, 1933, a son of the late Gertrude (Coleman) and Richard E. Heidemann. He graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. John worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at many of their local locations, retiring in 1995 after 38 years with the Company, the last 15 years he managed their Employee Assistance Program.

John was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed deer hunting, bird hunting, downhill skiing, and a little fishing, but mainly just loved the outdoors, he would spend hours watching and feeding the birds on his deck.

John is survived by his wife Ruth E. (Vartti) Heidemann, whom he married on August 26, 1978, his children: Janis (Lee) LaFreniere, of Ishpeming, Jeffrey (Ann Mason) Heidemann of Basalt, CO, Julie (Julie Wydeven) Heidemann of Appleton, WI, Debra Nance of Marquette, Terie (Richard) Clark of Pembine, WI, Lisa Richards of Ishpeming, Craig (Dannilynn McCoy) Nance of Merrill, WI, Brett (Julie) Nance of Gwinn, a sister Roberta Young of Marquette, a brother Peter (Susie) Heidemann of Ewen, MI, 10 grandchildren, Kate, Marie, Robert, Allen, Joseph, Hanna, Katie, Kayla, Kaylen, Christopher, 1 great grandson: Atreus “AJ”., along with several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Richard “JR” Heidemann, sisters: Helen Mallgren and Gretchen Turner.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Negaunee Cemetery with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.

A Memorial Service will also be held at a later date at the Bethel Lutheran Church.

John’s family would like to thank the staff at Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care given to John.
