Cindy Lou (Smith) Harmon

BISHOPVILLE, SC – Cindy Lou Harmon, of Bishopville, SC, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 31, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer. Cindy was born June 20, 1955 in Addison, MI to Melvin & Henrietta Smith. They called the Upper Peninsula of Michigan their home and she graduated from Gwinn High School in 1973.

Cindy entered the Navy after high school and served as a corpsman. After her discharge she was a paramedic, where she met and married Clay Harmon in 1982. They had 2 daughters Melissa & Rebecca. They later divorced but remained friends. She received a degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina and held accounting positions at Lazy Boy and The Keenan Company.

She retired from the Naval Reserves as a Chief. Recently, she managed the regional delivery of the SC State Newspaper. Cindy is survived by her long-time partner James Messick, 2 daughters Melissa Harmon and Rebecca Harmon, 1 granddaughter Alexandra Harmon. Sisters; Barbara Bushaw of Marysville, MI; BetteJo (Pat) Miljour of Gwinn, MI; Lisa (Ray) Johnson of Skandia, MI; brothers Robert Smith of Knoxville,TN; Lowell Smith of Tucson, AZ; Melvin (Ann) Smith of Fayetteville, NC; Michael (Alize) Smith of Kalkaska, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by James Messick’s children Alicia Messick; James A. Messick III; Audra (Seth) Rosebrook and grandson David J. Messick. She was preceded in death by her mother Henrietta T. Smith, her father Melvin E. Smith, sister Josephine M. Wakefield and brother Kevin Smith.
