William R. “Studge” Anderson

ISHPEMING, MI – William R. “Studge” Anderson, age 88, of 765 Park St. Ishpeming, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility. Bill had suffered a massive stroke this past Monday.

Bill was born in Ishpeming on October 17, 1931, a son of the late Helen F. (DeRoche) and William T. Anderson. He grew up in North Lake and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1949. Studge worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 35 years, which included working underground at the Mather A Mine then to the Eagle Mills Pellet Plant and retired as a Foreman at the Brownstone Shops in Ishpeming.

Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, The Elks Lodge #447, and the Dead River Campers Association. Camp was a s­pecial place for Bill, and he had enjoyed 64 summers on the “Dead”. Bill also enjoyed bowling and loved to travel but the most important aspect of his life was to be amongst his family.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte (Lukkarinen) Anderson whom he married on Oct. 22, 1955; 6 children – Patricia Anderson of Commerce Twp.; Peter (Kathleen) Anderson, of Iron Mountain; Paula (Paul) Jacobs of Escanaba; Peggy (David) Crum of Negaunee; Greg (Patty) Anderson of Manistique; Lynn (fiance Peter Marana) French of Ishpeming; 13 grandchildren – Thomas Sarvello, Melissa Rupert, Luke Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Bryan Jacobs, Allison Jacobs Anderson, Tara Buda, Lindsay DeGabriele, Erin Anderson, Mitchell Anderson, Alex Anderson, Zachary French and Gabrielle French; 6 great grandchildren – Ty Buda, Charli DeGabriele, Liam DeGabriele, Lila Jacobs, William Jacobs, Genevieve Jacobs; six sisters – Susan Perry; Jean (Jim) Junak; Sheila (Tom) Thornton; Betty (Angelo) Bosio; Mary Jo (Larry) Bussone all of Ishpeming; and Frances (Joel) Schneider of Schaumberg, IL; a brother Terry (Carol) Anderson of Grand Junction, CO; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded by parents, a brother Neil Anderson, and a sister Julie Trewhella.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. A memorial celebration of Bill’s life will also be held at a later date.
