Margie VanAlstine

MARQUETTE, MI – Margie Lou VanAlstine, 83, of Marquette, passed away holding her loving husband’s hand on Saturday May 16, 2020 at the Mill Creek Senior Living Community in Marquette.

Born October 15, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan to Carl and Jane Malzahn, Margie grew up in Saginaw and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954. On August 10, 1957 Margie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jack VanAlstine, and they began sixty-three wonderful years together.

After marrying, they moved to East Lansing to attend Michigan State University and they started a family. In 1967 they moved to Escanaba where Margie began her career with the public schools. 1975 found the family living in Marquette. Margie was an office manager at Graveraet Middle School where she worked until she retired. Margie loved cooking, camping, traveling, watching movies, and she was an avid reader. However, if you asked friends and family about her true passion they would say making everyone feel welcome in her home. Margie was famous for her hospitality, her contagious laugh, and her big smile; just three facets of her beautiful, shining spirit. Marge is survived by her husband, Jack L. VanAlstine; her sons, Eric (Lisa) VanAlstine of Algoma, WI, Aaron (Denise Piacitelli) VanAlstine of Dupont, WA, and “honorary” son, Jerry (Penni) Kronschnabel of Mosinee, WI; her grandchildren, Lars VanAlstine, Annika VanAlstine, and Graysen Kronschnable; her sister, Judy (late Albert) Collet of Saginaw; and was predeceased by brother, Carl Malzahn, Jr. of Carp Lake, MI.

Services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic Street, Marquette, MI 49855 or the Marquette Salvation Army, 1009 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
