NEGAUNEE — Anthony Peter ‘Tony’ Maino, 72, of Everett St., Negaunee, passed away Friday evening, May 15, 2020 at his home.

Tony was born April 10, 1948 in Negaunee to Paul and Eugenia (Jyhla) Maino, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1966 and was a lifelong area resident. He served honorably in the United States Navy, first stationed in Bainbridge, MD then in North Island, CA. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education from Northern Michigan University. Tony worked for Cleveland Cliffs for ten years and then as a carrier for the United States Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 2014.

Mr. Maino was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee. He was a 45-year member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, reading, and visits to the casinos.

Surviving are his son, Andrew (Sarah) Maino of Soquel, CA; a grandson, Gent; granddaughter, Dillon; two brothers, Michael (Christine) and Geno (Becca) Maino; two sisters, Julie (Steve) Herman and Jeanne (Robert) Bushey; brother-in-law, ‘R.W.’ Worthington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his former wife Bobbie (Bill) Hartman, who remained friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patti Worthington; and a nephew, Matthew Worthington.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Koskey Funeral Home.
