TRENARY, MI – William E. “Bill” Davis, age 90, of Trenary, died early Tuesday morning March 10, 2020 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice. He was born on June 9, 1929 in Trenary, Michigan to the late Vance “V.B.” and Elizabeth (Elliot) Davis. Bill graduated from Trenary High School in 1947. He worked construction in Alaska and then in Florida on the railroad. Bill entered into the U.S. Army on March 28, 1951 and drove convoy trucks in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1953 as a Private. Bill married Betty J. Richmond on April 11, 1953. His working career included working at the mines in Ishpeming, at Floyd Kallio’s gas station as a mechanic, and for Richmond-Hawley Lumber Company and Forestry before his employment at K.I. Sawyer as a heavy equipment operator. Bill worked at K.I. from 1967 to the mid 1990’s.

He enjoyed going to camp, hunting, cutting wood with his grandson, searching for morels, taking naps in his deer blind, traveling around the U.P. with his friend Don Sandstrom and their pig cooker, and making maple syrup at The Sugarbush with Waki Maki. Bill was a member of the Trenary United Methodist Church, Trenary Lions Club, V.F.W. and cherished his trip to Washington D.C. with the U.P. Honor Flight.

Bill is survived by his wife of over sixty-six years – Betty Davis of Trenary; daughters – Melanie Tyner of Valley, Nebraska and Alison Martin of Trenary; grandchildren – Kayla, Jackie, Tobi, Dawn, Clint, Chase, and Cord; great-grandchildren – Logan, Jackson, Cain, Cordilia, Adalena, Britton (Carli), Karlie, Jaelynn, Destinee, Autumn, Lucielle, Stormy, Elaina, Ainsley, Hayden, Isabella, Syrus, and Zayden; great-great granddaughter – Cayden; sisters – Mary and Irma; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his son Jack, daughter Carolyn, parents V.B. and Elizabeth Davis, sisters Helen and Ruthy, and brother Jack.

Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Trenary on Friday, March 13, 2020. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Sandra Kolder will conduct Bill’s funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary where military honors will be conducted.
