Michael ‘Mikey’ LaHaye

LOS LUNAS, NM – Michael LaHaye, age 31, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away on the early morning hours of March 3, 2020. He was at home surrounded by his mother, father, and sister.

Born March 9, 1988, on K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Michael attended St. Michael’s Catholic School, as well as Bothwell Middle School until moving to Sandwich, Illinois. He graduated high school in Sandwich High School in 2006.

Michael then relocated to New Mexico in 2007 to be with his immediate family. While living in New Mexico, he worked with his father at Crane Care, Inc. where he inspected and installed overhead rail cranes, until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010. After the removal of the tumor and subsequent radiation and chemo treatments, he was clear until 2012 when another had to be removed. Eight years later, in October of 2019, the tumor returned. He fought long and hard, but had unfortunately succumbed to the disease.

Michael loved his family. He enjoyed elk and mule deer hunting in the mountains of Pietown, New Mexico with his father. They would spend a considerable amount of time here building the family camp.

Michael is survived by his parents; Lorrie (Blondeau) LaHaye and Thomas “Mike” LaHaye of Los Lunas, NM, and his sister; Josephine LaHaye of Albuquerque, NM, his grandfather; Leonard Blondeau of Gwinn, Michigan, and grandmother; Judith LaHaye of Geneva, Illinois, as well as several aunts, uncles, friends, and his black lab; Angel.

Michael is preceded in death by his grandmother; Lois Blondeau of Gwinn, his uncle; Scott Blondeau of Marquette, and his grandfather; Thomas LaHaye of Geneva, Illinois.

Visitation for Michael will be held in the Baraga Room at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Gwinn, on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Allen Mott, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the reception hall.
