Sally (Danielson) Zanetti

NEGAUNEE, MI – Sally A. (Danielson) Zanetti, 85, of Main St., Negaunee, sang with the Angels in Heaven to start the New Year, as her quest to make the world a better place ended Thursday morning, January 2, 2020. She passed away in her home, right where she wanted to be.

Sally was born October 24, 1934 in Negaunee to Carl and Margaret (Collins) Danielson, graduated from Negaunee High School and was a lifelong area resident. She completed Nursing School at St. Lukes and worked her way to become the operating room supervisor at Marquette General Hospital. Sally also taught at Northern Michigan University where she spread her knowledge and care to the future nurses of the world. She was also a loving and devoted homemaker and caregiver to all.

Sally was a lifelong member of Mitchell United Methodist Church where she served as their beloved choir director. Throughout her many years at Mitchell, in addition to the senior choir, she directed the children’s, junior, and the Methodist men’s choirs. She was an instrumental figure in many special events including the Living Christmas Tree, church Bazaars, and potato sausage and pasties. Sally was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Sally believed in God, and truly lived a life serving Him. She loved her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and taught them all so very much. When you were with her she made you feel like the most important person in the world. She was always full of compliments, encouragement, advice, spunk, adoration and song. She was genuine!

Surviving are her 3 daughters: Margaret (Doug) Wehmanen, Elizabeth (Dan) MacDonald and Danielle (Bill) Haanpaa, Jr.; 10 grandchildren: Megan (Mark) Ulvila, Paul (Jen) Wehmanen, Danae, Cameron, Joshua (Gina), Sarah, Christian and Daniel MacDonald, Emilee (Ryan Syrjala) Lokken, and Hunter Haanpaa; 4 great-grandchildren: Morgan, Mason and Matthew Ulvila and Noah MacDonald; her brother, David (Donna) Danielson; special cousin, Sandra Kontio; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and dear friends, Harriet Olson, Patricia Sawyer and Martin Achatz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cara Zanetti; and a sister, Madge (Joe) Downing.

Memorial services will be held at 4:30 PM on Friday, January 10th at Mitchell United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Albert Barchue officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:30 PM until the time of services at 4:30 PM at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall.
