NEGAUNEE, MI – Joyce Arlene Koski, 80, formerly of 222 W Peck Street in Negaunee, MI died on Friday, January 10, 2020, as a patient at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility. She fought a valiant battle for the past 13 years coping with Alzheimer’s disease.

Joyce was born April 1, 1939, in Ishpeming, to Leonard “Cookie” and Elsie (Kangas) Koski and was a lifelong area resident. Joyce was a graduate from Negaunee High School Class of 1957 and enjoyed many memories while following the Miners when they captured the 1957 State Class B Championship in basketball.

Joyce was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she loved teaching and singing in the church choir for several years prior to her illness. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her. She devoted her entire life supporting her parents and her younger siblings.

Joyce worked in the insurance business beginning her career with the George Sivula Insurance Agency. She then worked for Clifford Lehto State Farm Insurance prior to her illness.

Surviving are her sisters; Carol Brown of Ishpeming and Diane (James “Boney”) Carlson of Negaunee; 3 brothers; Gerald Koski of Gladstone, Roland “Foo” (Barbara) Koski of Negaunee and Bruce (Joni) Koski of Texas; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth (Joyce Ann) Koski and Terry Koski Sr; sisters, Nancy (Edward) Crowder and Shirley (Malcolm) Nelson; and her brother-in-law Charlie Brown.

Joyce’s family would like to express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the tender care given Joyce during the past 13 years.

A private service will be held at a later date with burial in the family lot at the Negaunee Cemetery.
