NEGAUNEE, MI – Johnnie Lovern, 68, of Negaunee Township, passed away Saturday morning, January 11, 2020, at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee, in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Johnnie was born on June 17, 1951, in Montgomery County, Virginia, to the late Wiley and Dorothy (Cromer) Lovern. Johnnie retired as an operating engineer from Local 324 Operating Engineers union. During his retirement he found great joy with AMCAB cooking and delivering meals to senior citizens and shut-ins.

He was a member of Ishpeming Elks Lodge # 447 and the Negaunee Eagle’s Club, Aerie #1944.

Johnnie is survived by his loving partner, Rachel Asgaard; one son, Eric (Cory) Lovern of Ishpeming; two step-children, Deanna (Robert) Sved and Dennis VanAbel (Cheryl); one grandson, Riley Lovern and five step-grandchildren, Ella and Lola, McKenna, Beau, and Shane; Rachel’s children, April (Brian) Harkins and Craig (Nola) Asgaard; grandchildren, Luke and Morgan, and Taylor and Connor; two brothers, Freddie (Theresa) Lovern and Jerry (Jane) Lovern; six sisters, Shirleane (Pete) Luokkala, Jean (Earl) Steele Hodges, Hazel (Charles) Ager, Linda (Kelly) Steele, Fay (Buddy) Adams, and Nina Eanes; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Linda L’Huillier; also two sisters, Emma Diane Hughes and Kathy Lovern Brammer.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date with inurnment in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
