John E. Crady Jr.
REPUBLIC, MI – John E. Crady Jr., age 79, longtime resident of the Witch Lake Area, passed away on Sunday January 5, 2020 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit while in the loving care of his family and hospital staff.
John was born on July 10, 1940 in the Louisville, KY area, son of the late John E. Crady Sr. and Mary Diefenbach. Upon graduation from high school John served the country in the United States Navy for 8 years. Following his service John worked several jobs including Bell Telephone, General Motors, before settling into his career with the State of Michigan where he retired in April of 2000 as a Facility Manager.
John was a member of the Sagola Sportsman Club, Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club, Oddfellows, was a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of the Lions Club of Republic. He enjoyed hunting, geocaching, photography, fly tying, doing bird counts for the University of Cornell Ornithology Department, his greatest love was teaching hunter safety to local children which he did for 28 years.
John is survived by his wife- Leona Crady, children- Darryl Crady, Deanna Crouse, Kim (Kevin) Shinabery, Robert (Shelly) Claycomb, grandchildren- Brian (Sarah) Crouse, Nicole (Adam) Ardans, Tayler (Chris) Kolodica, Travis Shinabery, Alyssa Claycomb, Thomas Claycomb, Hannah Claycomb, and 2 great grandchildren- Zachary Ardans, Knox Kolodica.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son- Dale, and grandson- Cory.
John’s family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Monday January 13, 2020. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm with Pastor James Janofski officiating. Interment will take place in the Republic Cemetery in the Spring.
