MARQUETTE, MI – Susie Chang Hanson, born Hsiu-Chu Chang, 68, of Marquette, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at her residence.

Susie was born on September 22, 1951 in Taipei, Taiwan. On March 31, 1975, she married Gregory Hanson in Taipei. She and Greg moved to Marquette in the summer of 1975 and she became a naturalized U.S. citizen on July 8, 1981.

Susie was a proud hockey mom, never missing any of her children’s hockey games. In her free time, Susie enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She particularly enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of her roses and geraniums. She was an avid Bingo player.

Survivors include her husband, Greg; three children, LTC Johnny Chang Hanson, US Army, of Fort Gordon, GA, Catherine Chang Hanson of Henderson, NV, and Joseph Chang Hanson of Bensenville, IL; a granddaughter, Brianna Hanson of North Carolina; three sisters and two brothers as well as several nieces and nephews residing in Taipei, Taiwan. Also surviving are brother and sisters-in-law, Brian “Bucky” Hanson, Michelle “Shelly” Winquist, and Christine (James) Soetaert, all of Marquette as well as several nieces and nephews residing throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

There will be no visitation or funeral ceremony at this time.

The Hanson family would like to thank the office of Drs. Stevens and Hardie Family Practice, especially PA Erika Hefke as well as U.P. Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care of Susie.
