Martin Williams

MARQUETTE, MI – Martin R. “Marty” Williams, age 80, of Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at 3:15 am.

He was born in Stoneville, North Carolina on September 16, 1939. He went to school in Reidsville, North Carolina up until 1958 when he joined the Air Force and served until 1962.

He married Linda Poisson of Sands, Michigan, on December 27, 1969 at St. Louis the King in Harvey. He was employed at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Civil Engineers for 29 years, starting as an electrician and retiring as a supervisor in liquid fuels. After his retirement he decided to consult for Interspec Inspection Services. This work led him to many places across the U.S. which he enjoyed very much.

Marty took great pride in the log cabin he built in Kiva and hunted there as often as he could. It was a gathering place for all to enjoy and we did. He and Linda bought a motorhome to travel and wintered in Mexico Beach, Florida for many years. He spent his time there fishing and enjoying many a fish fry and low country boil.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Williams; three children, Jeffrey (Tiffanie) Williams of Houston, TX, Michalene (Josh) Cromell and Andrew Williams of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Katelyn, Jake, Chelsea, Cali, Evan, and Daniel; and one great-grandchild, Makenna. He is also survived by two sisters, Gail and Joelene.

Marty was preceded in death by a son, Matthew; his parents, Doc and Lindy; a sister, Treva; and brother, Francis.

Marty was a strong, silent pillar of our family. He taught us to always have faith and to love fiercely. He will be forever missed.

Marty has been a parishioner of St. Peter Cathedral for 25 years. As such, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 23, at St. Peter Cathedral. Visitation begins at 11:00 am in the Bishop’s Room, with a Rosary at 11:45 am, and mass in the Cathedral at 12:30 pm. Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be made at Park Cemetery followed by a luncheon at 2:00 pm in the reception room located at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services.
