Joseph Ranger

MARQUETTE, MI – Joseph “Ernie” Ranger passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on October 15, 2019 at the age of 93.

He was born on September 8, 1926 in Detroit to Clifford and Marie Ranger.

He enjoyed a lively childhood as the second oldest of eight children. He served in the United States Marine Corps actively during World War II. He married the love of his life, Evelyn DeMeyer at the age of 23. He lovingly raised three children, chronologically Diane, John, and Adrienne. He passionately worked in the refrigeration industry following his time in the service. He took great pride in the quality of his work and continued to be the go-to “handy man” even after retirement. He loved carpentry and created many quality pieces of furniture and other wood work. He enjoyed listening to and attending performances of classical music.

His wife, Evelyn, preceded him in death, having passed away in 2011. He is survived by his three children, Diane Ruedemann, John (Wanda) Ranger, and Adrienne (Rich) Vermeulen. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joey and Melissa Ranger.

He is survived by eight remaining grandchildren, Diane’s children, Robert, Zoe, and Edward; John’s son, Michael; and Adrienne’s children, Joseph, Nicole, Jill, and Ricky.

Following the passing of his wife, Ernie moved to Marquette to be closer to his family. He enjoyed these “golden years” by spending every day with his family and friends.

Ernie will be remembered for his gentle, loving, and generous nature.

Ernie was a devoted and active member of St. Peter Cathedral.
