MARQUETTE, MI – Michael David Havel, age 65, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019, at home.
Born January 31, 1954, in Newberry, a son of Edward and Janet (Meyers) Havel, Mike was raised in Big Bay and graduated from Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1972. For the next few years, Mike worked with his father in the operation of the family business, Havel Logging. He then began a long career in law enforcement, enrolling in the Police Academy at Northern Michigan University and continuing with employment at the Marquette City Police Department. Mike retired in 2000. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.
Mike is survived by his three children, Lori (Tom) Durand of Big Bay, Tasha Havel of Marquette, and Michael (Amy) Havel of Harvey; four grandchildren, Austin and Alex Durand, and Eli and Addison Havel; his mother, Janet Havel of Big Bay; a sister-in-law, Kay Havel of Big Bay; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his pot belly beagle, Daisy. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Havel; and two brothers, Jim and Ed Havel, Jr. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, September 26, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. This will be an informal time for the sharing of memories, conversation, and food.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Diabetes Association and Northwoods Airlifeline.
