Kerry Brad Luce

Kerry Luce

HARVEY, MI – Kerry Brad Luce, 71, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 30, 2019, in the loving care of his family. Brad was born February 27, 1948, in El Campo, Texas to Donald and Ovie Luce. They lived several years in Ganado, Texas before the family relocated to Sunburst, Montana, just seven miles from Canada. Brad loved to recall his life and adventures in Montana, camping and hiking in Glacier National Park and panning for gold in the Sweet Grass Hills. He was active in Boy Scouts and became one of the youngest scouts to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14, based on achievements such as his swimming across the cold and deep St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier Park. When Brad was entering 9th grade, his family again relocated to Hillsdale, Michigan where Brad attended high school. Brad was active in sports, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was an avid motorcyclist, loved music and played trumpet, and because he was a talented guitarist and singer, he started a band in 10th grade. He continued his musical career while he studied Biology at Northern Michigan University. For over thirty years he was a lead singer and bass guitarist for popular bands, including East of Orange. It was during one of his concerts at the Ishpeming Armory, when he was a senior at NMU, that he met the love of his life, Rhonda Rossway, who was also attending NMU as a freshman. On July 14, 1973, they were married at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. For two years Brad and Rhonda traveled the country with his band until 1975, when they moved back to Marquette and he began his thirty-three year career at the LS&I Railroad. He eventually became an Ore Dock agent after years of being a supervisor of the freight department. Brad and Rhonda had two children, Angela born in 1979 and Darren born in 1982. Brad was a dedicated husband and father who showed true compassion and love by always putting his family first. Music and motorcycles were very important to him. Brad owned several touring motorcycles, and took long trips to Florida, and other destinations. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, enjoyed playing games with his kids, telling stories, going for bicycle rides, and participating in sporting events. Throughout his life, being active in church was always important to Brad. In the early 1990s he became Cub Master of Troop 313 of Boy Scouts of America, which his son belonged to. Brad was always available as a coach and participant of his children’s activities. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. Brad was positive, affectionate, humble, kind, always had a big smile, and never spoke negatively about anyone. He loved God, his family, friends and his pets. Brad appreciated the small things in life and was respected and loved by all who knew him.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marvin, father and mother in-law Melvin and Marian Rossway, son Darren Luce, and niece Anna Rossway. He is survived by his loving wife Rhonda, daughter Angela (Zack Sedgwick), grandson Dylan Luce, sister Sue Crisman, brother in-law Ron Rossway, sister in-law Rita (Rich Rossway), niece Rhonda Rossway, nephew Rainger Rossway, niece Denise Mann, nephew Michael Luce, and special musician friends Ray Dollar, Tom Anderson and Lee Piper.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, September 5, beginning at 5:00 pm until the time of service at 7:00 pm. Pastor Kevin Taylor will officiate. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery with Dylan Luce, Zack Sedgwick, Ron Rossway, Rich Rossway, Rainger Rossway, Ray Dollar, Jon Dunn, Tom Anderson, and Lee Piper serving as pallbearers.
