Martin William Salminen

WAUKEGAN, IL – Martin (Marty) William Salminen peacefully passed away July 22, 2019, in Waukegan, IL, after suffering a massive stroke.

He was born October 6, 1941, in Waukegan, to Charles and Eva (Karppinen) Salminen. The family moved to the Ishpeming, Michigan area when his father was drafted in WWII. Marty attended Ishpeming High School. He was a truck driver for most of his working career. He enjoyed driving, seeing our beautiful country, and golfing, especially with his brothers, nephews and special friends at the Wawonowin Country Club on his annual trips to Ishpeming. Marty was a warm, friendly person and struck up a conversation with people wherever he went. He was a member of the Waukegan Laestadian Lutheran Church of Illinois.

Marty is survived by son; Troy Flatley, step daughter; Tonjia Gibson, granddaughters; Jennifer Sourie, Brianna and Kimberly Flatley, great- granddaughter; Emma and Addisyn Sourie, all of Oklahoma City, OK; six sisters, Melba (Ron) Simonson, Buffalo, MN, Maria Salminen, Beach Park, IL, Sara Davis of Newton, TX, Carol Salminen of Maple Grove, MN, Eva Christine (Steve) Stockton of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ruth Mueller of Savanna, IL. Three brothers; Roy (Sherry) of Brooklyn Park, MN, George Peter (Cindy) of Pleasant Prairie, WI and Richard of Twin Lakes, WI. Aunt; Betty Salminen of Lansing, MI, and special friend; Margaret Stevens of Beach Park, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by daughters; Kimberly Martina Salminen, Tracey Pritchard, great-granddaughters; Darci and Kristen, parents, sister; Rebecca, brothers-in-law; Martin Mueller & Billie Davis, Uncles; George (Saima) Salminen, Lawrence (Lucy) Salminen, Gust (Evelyn) Salminen, Armas Arthur Salminen and Aunt; Gertrude Salminen. A family graveside service and inurnment was held August 3, 2019, at the Ishpeming Cemetery officiated by nephew, Curt Simonson of Cokato, MN.
