Malinda Ann Smith-Turri

MARQUETTE, MI – Malinda Ann Smith-Turri, 66 of Marquette passed away on August 22, 2019 after a lifelong battle with diabetes.

She leaves behind husband Sam, sisters Amy (Paul) Carlson, Tina (Tim) Biolo, niece Jennifer (Adam) Aide, nephews Johnny (Tara) VandeZande and Kody Carlson, great nieces Audrina and Sophie, all of Marquette.

Malinda is in heaven resting in the arms of her beloved parents Charles and Cletus Smith and sister Barbara (Bobby) James.

Malinda received her LPN certificate in 1974, Associate degree in Nursing in 1994 and a BSN in 1997 from Northern Michigan University. She was a respected and dedicated nurse for 25 years.

Malinda loved her family very much, but her greatest joy in life were her animals. Malinda was a strong advocate for adopting from local animal shelters. She always had a cat sleeping on her lap and a dog laying at her feet. A good day for Malinda was going out to the barn to pet her horses and give them treats. Their devotion gave her so much comfort and love as only animals can. Malinda lived life quietly, not venturing too far from home and her faithful critters. When the family gathered for holiday meals, Malinda always had a few scraps put aside on her plate for her “kids” when she got home. Malinda’s family is planning a private service to honor and remember her. In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider a donation to UPAWS or animal shelter anywhere. Malinda would be so thankful.

Although our hearts are broken, we are grateful that Malinda’s suffering has ended and she is free once again. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
