Carol Sue Zhulkie

She graduated from Ishpeming High School and Northern Michigan College of Practical Nursing. She was married to the love of her life, Charles for 61 years.

Carol was employed as a LPN by Sparrow Hospital and later volunteered at both Sparrow and McLaren hospitals in various capacities for many years. Following her nursing career she was employed and retired from the Grand Ledge Public School system after 20 years, again followed by many years of volunteering in classrooms and the library at Willow Ridge Elementary.

Carol deeply loved her family, cherishing family moments, camping, celebrations, and milestones. Especially dear to her heart were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church using her gifts and servant’s heart in multiple roles during her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, granddaughter Sara Endres, and special lifelong friends Muriel Garnett and Judith Toman.

She is survived by her husband Charles, one sister Julie (Jerry) Nelson, daughters Amy (Don) Lowell, April (Greg) Dennis; grandchildren: Myria (Peter) Johnson, Matthew (Bri) Dennis, Lisa Endres, and Kevin Endres; great grandchildren: Braden, Connor, Elyssa, Sarah and Parker; nephew Michael (Jessica) Nelson, many great neighbors and extended family. She was “Ma Zhulkie” and “Grandma Carol” to many beyond her immediate family.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2019 – 11:00 a.m. at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with visitation one hour prior to service.
