Janet LaCosse

MARQUETTE, MI – Janet Rose (Manzoline) LaCosse, also known as “Jan”, aged 76, died peacefully on June 28, 2019, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Marquette, Michigan.

Janet was born December 28, 1942, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to Michael and Mary (Roti) Manzoline, who both have preceded her in death. She has a sister, Mary Kay (Manzoline) LaBo, of Ishpeming, Michigan. She also has a sister, Margaret (Manzoline) Mahoney, who has preceded her in death.

Janet graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1961. She married Robert LaCosse on May 5, 1962, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ishpeming, Michigan. Robert and later Janet moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1962, later moving to Buffalo Grove, Illinois in 1967 where they lived there for 32 years before retiring to Marquette, Michigan.

Janet was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish during her time in Buffalo Grove. Janet was a dedicated and loving mother who was also a champion for caring for children who came from dire circumstances.

Janet and her immediate family cared for over 20 foster children in the early 1970’s culminating in adoption of two of her children, Robert and Lee Ann. She was also active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society and other organizations over the years by helping people in need. She also was a frequent visitor to the premature baby ward of Marquette Hospital and enjoyed knitting caps for the newborns.

Janet enjoyed knitting, making many sweaters, scarves, hats and other items which she gave away to others in need.

Janet is survived by her children Jeffrey Paul and his wife Davida Breaux LaCosse, of Millbrook, New York, Scott Norbert LaCosse, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Robert Michael LaCosse of Marquette, Michigan, and Lee Ann LaCosse of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Janet has 6 surviving grandchildren: Daniel LaCosse, Justin LaCosse, Marielle LaCosse, Anna Leigh Nestor, Kevin LaCosse, and London LaCosse.

Janet has one surviving sibling, Mary Kay (Manzoline) LaBo of Ishpeming, MI.

Janet’s surviving nephews and nieces are Mark Mahoney, Michael Mahoney, Terri (LaBo) Gillotte, Ann (LaBo) Gereau, Nicole (LaCosse) Lavinder, Chris LaCosse, Keith LaCosse, and Catrina (LaCosse) Prisk.

Janet’s surviving in-laws are Gene and Karen LaCosse, Stanley and Carolyn LaCosse, and Louis Peterson.

Janet was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert, who recently passed away. Also by her father, Michael Manzoline (1960), her mother, Mary (Roti) Manzoline (2004), her sister Margaret Rose (Manzoline) Mahoney (2012) and her brother-in-law Paul Mahoney (2018). Janet was also predeceased by her father-in-law Eugene LaCosse (1977) and mother-in-law Sylvia (Saari) LaCosse (2009).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Father Ryan Ford as celebrant. Public Visitation will take will be held at the Church on hour prior to service starting at 10 a.m.

Appreciation is given to both the Lighthouse Home and the Jacobetti Home for Veterans for the excellent care they provided Janet in her final year.
