Daniel Willis

GWINN, MI – Daniel R. Willis, 65, of Gwinn, passed away peacefully February 19, 2019, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI, with his family by his side.

He was born in 1953, in Escanaba, a son of the late Calvin and Roberta (Underwood) Willis.

Daniel served in the US Army for 4 years and Navy for 2 years and was a Vietnam Veteran.

He was employed as a machine operator at DCS Color Supply in Milwaukee for years before returning to the Upper Peninsula in the late 1990’s.

Daniel attended church at the Little Lake Chapel. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing, camping, listening to music, was a Detroit Lions and Tigers fan and also enjoyed shopping at “Vinnie’s” where his niece works.

He will be remembered as a loving, caring, kind hearted person who had a way of brightening other’s days.

His family will remember him for his sense of humor, generosity and ability to put a smile on someone’s face.

Daniel is survived by his four children, Bonnie (Ryan) Nelson of Gladstone, Dustin Willis of Gwinn, Amanda Willis of New York and Jeffrey (Desiree) Marquette of Cornell, MI; grandchildren, Kayden Nelson, Gabrielle Marquette, Danny Gabus, Riley Marquette, Dylan Nelson, Tyler Gabus, Maddy Nelson and Blesin Willis; siblings, Marie (Ken) Jensen of Ohio, Sheila (Ralph) Cruz of Ohio and Judy (Kenny) Crum of Little Lake; a special niece, Faith Smith of Gwinn; many nieces & nephews; and dog, Sam of 14 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first born son, Daniel R. Willis, Jr.; younger brother, Steven “Chum” Willis; sister, Christine Willis; nephews, Kenny Crum, Jr.; special friend, Brandy Peterson; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019, from 2 to 4 pm, in the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm in the funeral home.

Interment will take place in the McFarland Cemetery.
