Daniel Pellow

GWINN, MI – Daniel Howard Pellow, longtime Gwinn resident, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 at the age of 66. He had been under the excellent care of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for many years.

Daniel was the youngest of five children born to Thomas F. and Virginia (Greenway) Pellow on September 5, 1952 in Ishpeming, Michigan. He graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1971, and continued his education at Central Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in 1975. Dan held a variety of jobs in his working career including teaching at Gwinn High School and several years of factory work in Newnan, Georgia.

One of Dan’s greatest joys was spending time with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing books especially about history. Dan’s love of history began early in life and grew with him. He was a lively conversationalist and always enjoyed a good debate. Dan was also a music buff. He loved his music and attended concerts. He has an encyclopedia of knowledge of music that was second-to-none. Dan was dubbed “Steely Dan”, a nickname that remained with him until he died.

Surviving Dan are his wife, Diane Mattice; son, Sean Pellow of Negaunee; daughter, Elizabeth Pellow of Negaunee; granddaughter, Addison Czenkus; three sisters: Anne Collins of Ellijay, Georgia, Mary (Gene) Holzhauer of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Martha (Paul) LaChance of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Patty Kamp Pellow; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His parents and a brother, Thomas P. Pellow, preceded him in death.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 28th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Koskey Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery.
