Bart C. Olsen

Bart C. Olsen

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI – Bart Carl Olsen, age 72, of Chocolay Township, entered eternal life Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois.

Born November 12, 1946, in Sands Township, a son of C. Ross and Vivian (Johnson) Olsen, Bart was raised in Sands and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1965. He enlisted in the US Army, serving two tours of duty during Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the Marquette area where he began a life with Kathy whom he would later marry in 1983. He pursued a career in the road construction industry, where he was employed for many years traveling the State of Michigan and, in the winter, worked for K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as a snowplow driver. He then began employment with the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He retired from MCSWMA after 25 years and was a AFSCME local union member. Bart was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, jet skiing, snowmobiling, marksmanship, and camping in his camper. Bart’s favorite past time was Farmall Tractor restoration and he attended the steam and gas engine show every year with his wife. His most prideful title was being Grandpa to Oliver; the two were the best of buds. As we cherish their relationship, we find peace and happiness in seeing Grandpa in all of Oliver’s smiles. Bart was known for always helping anyone in need; he was a strong man and an inspiration to many in his life.

Bart is survived by his wife, Kathy (Fosco) Olsen, whom he married in 1983; two daughters, Tammy (Jim) Littich of Birmingham, AL and Amanda (Tom Raymus) Olsen of Marquette; his grandson, Oliver Raymus; a sister, Dawn Aho of Gwinn; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.
