Will Matthew ‘Willy’ Johnson

Will Johnson

MARQUETTE, MI – Will Matthew “Willy” Johnson, age 22, of Marquette, entered eternal life Friday afternoon, January 25, 2019, as the result of an automobile accident in St. Ignace. Willy’s nephew, Jacob Johnson, passed away the following day due to his injuries.

Born June 7, 1996, in Marquette, a son of Carl W. and Amy (Dupie) Johnson, Willy was raised in Marquette and attended Marquette Senior High School. As soon as he turned 16, Willy landed his first job at McDonalds. Over the years, he was employed in the fast food industry with various local restaurants. Most recently he was employed as a chef at the Landmark Inn. He also, from time to time, worked with his father on construction. Willy enjoyed anything hockey, especially when it involved his nephews, Jake and Kyle. The three maintained a close knit bond through the years and Willy was their best number one fan, particularly when it came to hockey. In fact, the threesome often referred to each other as “brothers”. In his leisure moments, Willy was also an enthusiastic fan of NMU hockey, Wildcats in general, Detroit Red Wings, and avid Packer fan. He also enjoyed learning about all things new, possessed a great sense of humor, and was always willing to lend a hand where needed.

Willy is survived by his mother, Amy Dupie of Ontonagon; father, Carl W. Johnson of Marquette; his siblings, Carl W. (Kourtney) Johnson III of Marquette, Joni Johnson of Manitowoc, WI, and Katie Johnson of Marquette; his nephews, Kyle and Lucas Johnson of Marquette; maternal grandmother, Lois Dupie of Ontonagon; aunts and uncles, Barb and Steve Sicotte, Linda and Mark Johnson, Mike Johnson, Jan Johnson, Linda Johnson, Lorell and Jack Eldridge, and Jerry Dupie; and numerous cousins.

Willy was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Dupie, Bill and Anna Mae Johnson; uncles and aunts, Bobby Dupie, Janelle Cole, John Dupie, Joni Guy, and Joseph Dupie; and cousins, Amber Guy and Bobby Pestka.

Willy lives on, not only through countless memories for family and friends, but through his being a Gift of Life Donor.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Lakeview Arena, Marquette, on Friday, February 8, at 2:00 pm.

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.”…Love, Mom and Dad.
