Ernest Burgess
NEGAUNEE, MI – Ernest Leroy ‘Ernie’ Burgess, 97, formerly of the Lakeview Apartments, Croix St., Negaunee, passed away Friday afternoon, January 4, 2019 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in the care of his loving family.
Ernie was born July 2, 1921 in Chicago to Ernest and Pearl (Murnane) Burgess. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during WWII and was an honorably discharged veteran of the Unites States Army. Following his service to his country, Ernie was employed as a construction consultant while living in Dalton, Illinois prior to moving to Negaunee over 21 years ago.
Ernie was a member of the VFW, was an avid musician who played guitar and banjo, and enjoyed bluegrass music. He also enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda Bledsoe of Negaunee; son, James Burgess; a daughter-in-law, Carrie (Koivula) Burgess; five grandchildren: Tammy Burgess, Lori Baum, Terry Burgess, Sheri Burgess and Jason Bledsoe; four great-grandchildren: Tyler and Kyle Burgess and Abryana and Logan Bledsoe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Burgess; a son, Leroy Burgess; two brothers, Leonard and Robert Burgess; and a sister, June Whitemer.
Honoring Ernie’s wishes, no public services will be held.
