MARQUETTE, MI – On December 30, 2018, Dale H. Hillier, Sr., husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle entered into eternal life at age 86 surrounded by family at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Dale will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dorothy (Tommy) Wilson, Paula, Sam, Dale and Patrick (Cindi). He is survived by six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, sisters Carole Ward, Judi Lezatz, brother Ken, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Olive on July 18, 2018, sister Joyce VanLueven, brother Andy and son-in-law Jack Davis.
Dale H. Hillier, Sr. was born September 4, 1932 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, son of the late Howard and Dorothy Hillier. He grew up on his father’s farm in Dafter, MI. He graduated high school in 1951. After graduation, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. When his military service ended, he returned to Sault Ste Marie where he married Olive Breckenridge on March 1, 1960. He started his career with Sherwin-Williams Co. in Appleton, WI, moving to Ames, IA; Sault Ste Marie, MI; Antigo, WI; Iron Mountain, MI; and Escanaba, MI. He retired from Sherwin-Williams of Marquette, MI with 40 plus years of service. He was very proud that his Marquette store won the bid to supply the paint for the Mackinac Bridge. Dale loved his family, fishing for speckled trout, hunting deer, and working in his garden. Dale met his Lord and Savior on October 26, 1979 at Harvey Baptist Church, where he served in various church functions, and was the adult Sunday school leader.
The family of Dale H. Hillier, Sr. would like to thank the staff at DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans and Lake Superior Hospice for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11 am at First Baptist Church, Marquette, MI. The family will greet guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service.
