William J. ‘Droop‘ Aho

ISHPEMING, MI – William J. “Droop” Aho, age 73, of 786 S. Pine St., Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at U.P. Health System Marquette while in the loving presence of his family.

Bill was born October 4, 1945 in Ishpeming the son of the late William W. and Jane D. (Booker) Aho. Bill had attended the Jacobetti Skills Center at NMU to become a mechanic. He was employed at various small engine repair shops locally, most notably at Honda of Marquette. He loved to tinker in his garage with cars and motorcycles, especially his 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback. His love for late model cars drew him to car shows annually in St. Ignace and Iola. Bill was most passionate about his grandchildren and his great granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife of the past 51 years, Karen Aho of Ishpeming, 2 children – Billie Jo (Robert) Lofaro and Jason Aho both of Ishpeming, 3 grandchildren – Nichole (Craig) Hibbard, Brianna Aho and Dylan Lofaro, great granddaughter Hope Hibbard, sisters and brothers – Gail (Ron) Santamore of Trenton, FL, Susan (Terry) Jandron of Ishpeming, Dennis Aho of Negaunee, Rita (Dan) Niemisto of Ishpeming, Debra (Robert) Annala of Ishpeming, Roberta Annala of Charlotte, NC and George Aho of Ishpeming.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers – Robert Ayotte, Gerald Aho and sister Candace Palm.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 12:00 PM on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM on Saturday at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Osborne to officiate.

Interment will take place in the spring at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services at the Wesley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 801 Hemlock St., Ishpeming.
