Paul Ringuette

MARQUETTE, MI – Paul E. Ringuette, age 84 of Marquette and former Republic resident went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans with his children by his side.

Paul was born October 15, 1933 in Marquette to Felix and Agnes (Shea) Ringuette. Paul grew up in Republic and moved to Marquette after retirement. Paul graduated from Republic High School in 1951. He then joined the US Army and proudly served his country in Korea. Paul married Patricia Blum on June 25, 1957 in Chicago, IL. He spent the next 41 years working for CCI, retiring from the Republic Mine in 1993. He and his wife Pat moved to Marquette to be closer to their grand- children.

Paul was an avid sportsman, his passions included: basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was the first from Republic High School to receive an All- State Honor for basketball. Following high school he was a member of the Republic Shooting Stars basketball team. In 1956-57 he competed in the professional Chicago Peterson Classic Bowling Tournament, both years finishing in the finals.

After retiring he moved on to refereeing and umpiring well into his later years. Paul was instrumental and enjoyed co-founding the Republic Athletic Club. He coached many teams throughout the years. He enjoyed time spent with his family, from watching his grandchildren play in their sports, traveling and spending time with those he loved. He also was a very handy man, building his family home in Witch Lake, cabin on Squaw Lake and endless jobs at his children’s homes.

Paul will be remembered most by his generosity and his endless wit and sense of humor. Paul was active in the St. Michaels parish, renewing his love and faith in the Lord.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia in 2005, sisters Rita Rogers, Lorraine Heilala, Mary Saari, and Kathleen Christman, and a brother Anthony Ringuette.

Paul is survived by his children: Benjamin (Paula) Taylor of Marquette, Paul (Beth) Ringuette of Ishpeming and Patricia (Cason) Tallio of Marquette, his grandchildren: Andrew, Scott and Caitlin Taylor, Ashley Helstien, Ryan and Christian Nebel and Courtney Tallio, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister, Delores Poag of Des Plaines, IL along with several nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Chester.

Paul’s family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon on Saturday October 6, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with Rev. Fr. Brandon Oman to officiate.

Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.

A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials can be directed to the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund in memory of Paul.

Paul’s family would like to thank the staff of the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans for caring for Paul in his time of need with the utmost dignity and respect he deserved. Thank you to his dear friends that he enjoyed as much. – A life well lived, Rest in Peace Paul.
