Carol Louise Shapiro Pawloski

TUCSON, AZ – Carol Louise Shapiro Pawloski, of Italian and Finnish ancestry, at age 83, quietly began her journey towards the light in the early morning hours of September 17, 2018 at her home in Tucson, Arizona. Her suffering from the increasingly debilitating effects of a stroke in 2006 mercifully ended. Memories, no matter how precious, will always be a poor substitute for her being physically present in this life. Knowing there will never be another like this sassy little spark plug makes our hearts ache.

Carol loved her animal friends. Accompanying her on the joyous journey to reunite with deceased family and friends that await beyond will be a yapping, frolicking, barking, meowing, honor guard of departed pet friends. Her dogs Bruno, Duke, Cassandra, Samantha, Hannah Bear, Nikki, Jefferson, Waylon, Willie and cats KC and Jacque must be overjoyed to see her again and she them. She always remembered and talked about Bruno her first dog. He was a dirty and not very fragrant stray mutt she brought home and managed to convince her mother to let her keep it, no easy task. Her mother must have seen how she loved that first scraggly old outcast dog with every fiber of her 10-year-old being. Her pets were always a major source of joy in her life.

Carol was born on January 31, 1935 to Salavatore and Elna Marra (Ritari) of Ishpeming in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near the southern shoreline of Lake Superior. She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1953, followed by attendance at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Northern Michigan University in Marquette. She left school to help her mother and sisters following her father’s untimely death from an apparent heart attack.

Carol married Louis A. Shapiro in 1957. The union produced 6 children in order of birth Roberta Small (Jerry), Joe (Launi), Julie (Randy), Mike, David and Louis. Grandchildren include Erin (Eric), Sarah, Jess, Eric, Whitney, Daniel, Amanda, Melissa and Macayla. Great-Grand- children include Audrey, Landan, Lauren and Jackson. Married Anthony R. Pawloski in 1980 with residence over the following years in Marquette, Michigan; Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Pensacola, Florida; Rifle; Colorado, Salt Lake City and St. George, Utah; Las Vegas, Nevada and eventually retirement in Tucson, Arizona. Wherever they lived Carol always enjoyed family gatherings, travel, bowling (had a mean natural ball hook for her diminutive size), a good glass of red wine, a few hands pinochle or cribbage for money of course and casino gambling. Carol and Tony shared the same January 31 birthday.

Carol worked as an operator and customer service representative for the old Michigan Bell System for over 20 years. Then subsequently worked for many years at several consulting civil engineering firms in marketing and collections before retiring in 2002.

Predeceased by both parents, first husband Louis Alan, and sons David and Louis Amalino.

Survived by older sister Rose Anderson, younger sister Jean Carter (Jake) and canine fur kids, Isabelle and Casper.

Special thanks go out to caregiver Claudia Valles with Home Care Assistance and the hospice team at Casa De La Luz. Services including internment were held Friday morning September 28, 2018 at Marana Mortuary, Marana, Arizona.
