John ‘Amik’ Haggard

GWINN, MI – John W. “Amik” Haggard, 78, of Gwinn, went out of this world and on to his next adventure at 1 a.m. on August 31st, 2018.

The measure of a man is not in where he started out, what college he went to, what business he started or what influential people he knew.

The measure of a man is in what he was made up of, the people he influenced and the largeness of his heart. Amik (John) was a mischievous bear, a grand story teller, an artist and crafter, a companion on the road to adventure, a buddy who fought by your side, and watched your back in the skirmishes and harshness of the battle ground of life. A fighter of his own dragons and demons, a Don Quixote, slaying some and leaving some to fight on another day. A father who thought of all of his children as treasures given to him. A friend whose loyalty never wavered. A natural man who needed a guide to find his way out of Walmart, but was most comfortable in the woods. He was a “larger than life” character who refused to be what this world expected him to be. He touched the lives of everyone he met, no one forgot him easily.

People shouldn’t mourn him, but remember his life with the laughter and love he instigated and continue to tell his stories as his family and friends will do. Amik’s feast and fire and celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, September 8th from 2 to 4 p.m. at 136 Crusader, K.I. Sawyer.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home where memories may be shared at
