Juliana (Rule) Maki

Juliana Maki

GWINN, MI – This is the story of Juliana Irene (Rule) Maki. Juliana (54) joined the Lord around 9:00am on August 27th in the comfort of her home, with her loving husband at her side. Juliana was an amazing woman who will leave a big hole in the hearts of all knew her. She is loved, cherished and will be missed by many. Juliana will always be known as a woman of boundless energy–a woman who could get anything done and done to perfection at the chagrin of those around her.

Juliana’s story starts on July 11, 1964 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the fourth daughter born to Clydene (Mickey) and Earl Rule, Jr. An Air Force brat, she and her family moved around finally settling in Ishpeming, MI where Juliana was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one–a trait that lasted her lifetime. She attended the majority of her academic years at Ishpeming High School and graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1982, and was also a graduate of Northern Michigan University. Julie worked in the banking industry for many years and at Northern Michigan University. She finished her career at the Marquette Board and Light and Power.

A proverbial Energizer Bunny, Julie was an active member of Gwinn United Methodist Church, the Ishpeming and Gwinn women’s pool league, the Ishpeming Horseshoe league, and an active group of biking ladies called the Ladeeda Chicks.

An avid traveler, Julie spent almost as much time planning trips as she did taking them. She enjoyed camping with her children and making memories singing around the campfire but her best years were spent with the love of her life, John and her grandbabies on the shores of their home on Johnson Lake.

Loved ones that welcomed and embraced Juliana in Heaven are her father, Earl Rule, Jr.; her mother, Clydene (Mickey) Rule; her sister, Earlene (Rule) Udager, and her step-father, Robert Mercer.

Loved ones that will miss her until they are reunited in Heaven are her husband, John Maki; daughters, Danielle (Matt) Ricketts, Sara (Carlos) Clement, Janna (Carlos) Clement; brothers, Toby Hedrick and Butch Hedrick; sisters, June (Larry) Morcom, Pam (Dan) Perkins, and Joanne (Robert) Chalgren. Her grandchildren, Braelyn, Rachel, Wesley, Elizabeth and Benjamin will always be reminded just how much she loved and cherished them.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of life at The Gwinn United Methodist Church (GUMC) on Friday, August 31st. Visitation will be held at 4:00 pm with service to begin at 5:30 pm and community dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to “The GUMC Mission Endowment Fund.”

The Canale Gwinn Funeral Home is assisting the Maki family where memories may be shared at canalefuneral.com.
