Bernard Maxfield

ISHPEMING, MI – Bernard “Bernie or Boo” Louis Maxfield, age 83, of Ishpeming, Michigan, went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 29, 2018 surrounded by family at the home of his daughter, Monica, in Deerfield, IL.

A celebration of his life and salvation will be held at 11:00 am followed by lunch on July 5, 2018 at North Iron Church in Ishpeming with Pastor Brady officiating.

Born on September 28, 1934, Bernie spent his youth in the quaint little town of his birth, Rockland, MI. After his high school graduation, a few jobs near home and in Detroit, MI, he traveled the world as a SeaBee in the United States Navy. On August 14, 1957 he married Eliane, a beautiful French Moroccan woman who was working at his naval base in Morocco, Africa. He brought his bride to the United States, where he secured a position in Victoria, MI, for the Upper Peninsula Power Company. After six years, the company transferred him as a systems control coordinator to Ishpeming, MI.

Bernie and Eliane raised four children; Grace, Bernie, Jr., Marina, and Monica, who with the help of their spouses (Dan, Marie, Beth, Rodney and Joe), added to the family nine grandchildren (Booie, Nick, Sean, Denton, Delainy, Lilly, Joey, Michael, and Michelle) and one great grandchild (Lily).

Bernie worked for the Upper Peninsula Power Company for 38 years and much of that time served as president of IBEW local 510. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He also served his community for many years as a volunteer fireman and ambulance attendant. He was always willing and able to help friends and family with projects big and small.

He loved deeply and laughed often.

In addition to his immediate family, Bernie is survived by brother James, and his wife Gaby, Maxfield; sister Wanda, and her husband Grant, Erickson; sister-in-law Delores Maxfield; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Bernie is preceded in death by two children, Marilyn and Brian; his parents, James and Grace Maxfield; sisters Gladys, Margie, and Georgetta, and their spouses; and brother Kenneth.

The family wishes to thank JourneyCare Hospice, and many doctors, nurses, clergy, extended family members, and friends who provided care and support during his later days.”
