NEGAUNEE TWP – Ruth I. Kimar, 99, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 9, 2018 at the Mill Creek Assisted Living Memory Care Unit where she had resided for 14 months.

Ruth was born April 4, 1918 in Humboldt, Michigan to the late Arthur and Lempi (Finni) Rosten. She attended Champion High School and married Oliver Kimar on June 12, 1948.

Mrs. Kimar was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. She enjoyed cooking, baking, Saturday night saunas and most of all, spending time with her beloved family.

Surviving are her two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Heidrich of Negaunee and Karen (David) Kimar-Johnson of Marquette; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver Kimar, in 1971; two sons: Robert and John Kimar; brothers: Elmer, Reino, Paul, Arnold, Francis and Bernhardt Rosten; and sisters: Sylvia Rosten, Maria Eleanor Tulkki and Marian Benson.

Funeral services will be held in the spring at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with the date and time to be announced. Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Ruth’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living, Lake Superior Hospice, Marquette Adult Day Services and also to her special caregivers, Linda and Lindy, all who provided excellent and compassionate care.
