Martha S. Heikkinen
OLYMPIA, WA / NEGAUNEE, MI – Martha Susan Heikkinen, 93, formerly of Sheldon St., Negaunee, died Monday, February 25, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Olympia, WA.
Martha was born February 17, 1924 in Butte, Montana to Nikolai and Amalia (Peltoniemi) Linna. Her family moved to Iron River in 1928 where she attended Iron River High School, graduating in 1942. She married the late Abraham ‘Abe’ Heikkinen in 1945 and moved to Negaunee in 1964. Martha was a loving and devoted homemaker.
Mrs. Heikkinen was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Ishpeming.
Surviving are her daughters: Brenda Marmon of Athens, GA and Elizabeth Day of Olympia, WA; 4 grandsons: Phillip Seagraves, Eric Weston and Cory (Heather) & Tyson (Jessica) Day; 6 great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Kyrie Weston, Jakob and Alexis Day, and Tanner and Josiah Day; niece, Susan (Anthony ‘Sonny’) Guizzetti of Negaunee; and nephew, Dr. Steven Gervae of Ontonagon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, on April 22, 2007; and her sister, Mary Gervae.
Honoring Martha’s wishes, no public services will be held. Inurnment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery Columbarium.
