Marie J. Jensen

Marie J. Jensen

LITTLE LAKE, MI – Marie Jane (Westman) Jensen passed away on January 6 just short of her 91st birthday. She lived in England, Germany, Alaska, Texas and New York with her husband and young family, but always considered Gwinn her home.

Marie married the love of her life, Donald Edwin Jensen, on April 17, 1946. With the Air Force carrying them across the country and around the world, Marie and Donald shared their lives with six children. Providing a welcoming home that was full of love, hospitality, laughter and joy was something Marie excelled at. There was always a clean bed and a full plate for anyone who needed a place to rest when Marie was around.

In addition to mothering, Marie loved to work in her garden, make silk floral arrangements, play games and cards with friends and of course coerce her children and grandchildren to eat too much of her wonderful cooking. Anytime the family got together, Marie lit up. She loved spending time with her brothers and sisters sharing stories and looking at pictures.

Marie was a long-standing member of Grace Lutheran Church.

She was blessed in her last years by the many people who helped and cared for her at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Marie is remembered by her children: Bernadette Jensen, Marvis (Danny) Stafford, Jerry (Marla) Jensen, Clayton (Jody) Jensen, Bernie (Debbie) Jensen, Pamela Schmeltzer; 10 grandchildren, Brad Stafford, Jeremy (Tammie) Stafford, Heather Jensen, Chad (Jennifer Jensen, Amanda (Paul) Pena, Ryan (Amanda) Jensen, Matthew (Lisa) Jensen, Kelsey Jensen, Todd (Missy) Jensen and Troy (Shannon) Jensen; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; one sister Sharon Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jerry August Westman and Emma Bell (Furiatar) Westman; her husband Donald Edwin Jensen; her sons Jeffrey Jensen and Darrell Jensen; brothers Roy (Mary Jane), Bobby, Jerry (Luella), Donald, Clayton, Harry, and John Westman; sisters Loraine (Rudy) Hukala, Betty Cornelia, Mary Ann (Don) Burdick, Dorthy and Doris (Rolby) Manchester.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Rell Spickerman officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers memorials made in Marie’s name to Grace Lutheran Church would be appreciated by her family.
