John ‘Jack’ R. Linsky

MUNISING/UTICA, MI – Mr. John “Jack” R. Linsky, of Utica, Michigan and formerly of Munising, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the age of 74 in the presence of his loving family. Jack was born to parents John and Anna Linsky on November 9, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan.

He grew up as the second of seven children and graduated from Pershing High School. After high school, Jack enlisted in the US Air Force. In 1967, he started his long career in law enforcement with the Detroit Police Department. In 1968, he married Judy (nee Perry). Jack retired from the DPD in 1994, but wasn’t done yet. He then moved to Munising, Michigan and began his second career as a sheriff’s deputy and EMT at the Alger County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked until his second retirement in 2008.

Jack and Judy had 2 children, Lori and Dan. While in Detroit, Jack was very active at St. Raymond Parish. He coached many sports throughout the years, was the announcer at the St. Raymond School football games and ran the school’s bowling league for many years. In Munising, Jack was involved with the Lions Club where he was the head lion, played Santa for special needs kids and was the Munising coordinator for the bell ringing for the Salvation Army for many years.

Jack loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers, playing baseball, horseshoes, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years Judy; his daughter Lori Roberts; his son Dan (Kristen); his sisters Mary Anne (Joseph) Olson, Louise (William) Brown and Diana Linsky. Proud grandfather to Colleen, Tommy and Noah; son-in-law to – Edward “Buck” Perry; brother-in-law to – Sue Marentette, Theresa (Rick) Cota, Kittie (Dennis) Mahoney, Dan (Lynn) Perry, Pete (Karin) Perry, and Paul (Kathy) Perry; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, siblings Richard, Dorothy and Theresa, favorite mother-in-law Colleen Perry, and brothers-in-law – Bruce Cota and Dave Marentette.

Two Services will be held for Jack. First, Visitation will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Service at 6:00 p.m. at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., in Warren, MI. There will be a second visitation at Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Tuesday, January 9, 2017 from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Ann Gonyea will conduct Jack’s funeral service at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. A fellowship gathering will follow the service at Alger Parks and Recreation Building. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising at a later date.
